We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Instument and Electrical Maintenance Technician within our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Muscle Shoals, AL.
Essential Job Duties: · Performs reliable instrument and electrical repairs on all plant process equipment.
· Troubleshoots, fabricates, modifies, removes, repairs, overhauls, or replaces parts or equipment on instrumentation and electrical systems, involved directly or indirectly with chemical processes or associated support equipment, in a safe, cost efficient, and environmentally-responsible manner.
· Identifies the need for and obtains the necessary parts, tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to safely perform assigned work.
· Identifies and evaluates alternative plans of action required to solve instrument and electrical failures.
· Adheres to area equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.
· Maintains the necessary training and qualification; including area overviews and applicable HESS courses required for the position, including First Aid and CPR training.
· Maintains craft skills so as to ensure ability to complete assigned work.
· Provides assistance to other maintenance crafts, as qualified.
· Assists in warehouse as needed, based on training & qualifications.
· Attends company or vendor training as directed.
· Trains and qualifies to operate mobile equipment, such as forklifts, manlifts, etc.
· Performs all work in a safe and professional manner.
· Performs safety, quality, and environmental inspections as assigned.
· Performs regular housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work area.
Complies with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
· Meets all Safety and Environmental Performance Accountability Spreadsheet requirements.
· Participates in special information or problem-solving teams as requested.
· Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
· Utilizes the Maintenance files and other engineering data as a resource in solving plant instrumentation and electrical problems.
· Performs recordkeeping required to properly document inspections and repairs performed.
· Utilizes the computerized Maintenance management system to document repair notes, review repair history, obtain materials from Stores, etc.
· Utilizes a computer for recording time and attendance, for SAP applications, for email communications, and for area process data, etc.
· Cooperates with other employees in a team atmosphere to solve plant problems and achieve plant goals.
· Supports OxyChem’s Equal Employment Policy and Affirmative Action Plan.
· Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.
· Adheres to USP/FDA requirements.
· Maintains a high awareness and support of the Environmental Awareness Program.
· Supports the Food Safety Management Systems.
· Completes any additional responsibilities assigned by Plant Supervision.

General: Must have high School Diploma / GED.
Employees typically work a 40-hour per week, 10-hour day Monday through Thursday rotation, with overtime or callouts as required to maintain plant operations.
They will be available on the overtime and callout boards to perform work in other crafts for which they have had prior experience and training, or as a helper for a lead craftsman such as an electrician.
Physical Requirements: Must work in temperatures ranging from winter lows to summer highs, and in all weather conditions.
Must be able to work while wearing full protective equipment and a variety of facial coverings, including full-face respirators, hoods, and supplied-air breathing equipment.
Must satisfy the medical “ability to wear” for respiratory use.
Must be able to lift and handle bags of material weighing up to 60 pounds.
Must be able to exert force to open and close manually-operated valves in the area with reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to climb single-section vertical ladders up to 30 feet and climb stairs, and work from elevations of up to 90 feet above ground level.
Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces.
Must routinely work on uneven surfaces.
Requires normal dexterity to perform the routine daily activities of standing, sitting, stooping, bending; and have good eye, hand, and foot coordination.
Requires dexterity to perform routine craft work, such as the operation of hand and power tools, disassemble and assemble equipment, align and position parts, perform rigging, operate mobile equipment, etc.
Specialized Knowledge & Skill Requirements: · Must have sufficient plant and process knowledge and craft knowledge to safely plan and perform assigned work.
Must have sufficient verbal and written communication skills to organize and coordinate work with the appropriate area Technicians and supervision.
Must have sufficient computer skills to interact with the computerized Maintenance management system.
· Minimum 3 years of experience as a mechanic/millwright plus mechanic/millwright knowledge verification via NCCER OR mechanic/millwright knowledge verification via NCCER plus completion of the following classes at Northwest Shoals or equivalent: · Int 106 Elements of Industrial Mechanics or MSP 136 Machine Repair · Int 117 Principles of Industrial Mechanics · Int 118 Fundamentals of Industrial hydraulics and pneumatics · Int 127 Principles of Industrial Pumps and Piping Systems Problem Solving/Troubleshooting: There is an unlimited number of different types of mechanical failures possible associated with the many different types of process and non-process equipment and facilities present in the plant.
This position must use his/her craftsmanship and experience to diagnose, identify, and execute the corrective action required to eliminate the failure.
Other Knowledge & Skill Requirements: A reasonable amount of overtime may be required to meet production needs.
