The primary responsibility is to build new tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, and any other production tooling as
well as to repair existing tooling.
Should be knowledgeable of and be able to use all tools of the trade.
This is a
journeyman-level craft for tool and die building.
Involves planning, layout construction and repair of a wide variety of
tooling to very close tolerances.
Tooling consists of dies (draw, pierce, stake, flat), jigs fixtures (machining and assembly),
and gauges.
Performs development work involving close fitting, adjustments, and sequential timing.
Must be able to plan
construction procedures and methods as well as selecting materials when specifications are not available.
Must be familiar
with and be able to perform heat treating operation by calculating shrinkage of allowances as required.
Will be responsible
for performing tool tryouts on production presses or equipment.
Should be able to diagnose and correct problems as
witnessed during tryout.
