Director of Operations The Director of Operations role will report directly to the Tarkett North America (TNA) SVP of Operations and will provide manufacturing leadership for our location in Florence, AL.
The Director of Operations will be responsible for all aspects of manufacturing, plant operations, quality, and safety.
The direct reports for the selected individual will include: Production Managers Maintenance Engineering Quality Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager World Class Manufacturing (WCM) With dotted line relationships with: Planning & Inventory Control, Finance, Human Resources In addition to providing hands-on management of the day-to-day operations the Director role will be expected to formulate and drive a new vision for the operations; provide leading-edge WCM practices and receive input from customers and internal stakeholders in order to optimize best-in-class process and efficiencies in plant operations.
Maintaining the company’s reputation and track record of customer service and quality will also be a key priority.
The Director of Operations will examine lean / world class manufacturing alternatives and analyze the risks, costs, and benefits of these alternatives in an effort to drive costs down, create new solutions and significant improvements, while maintaining a strong customer orientation.
The successful incumbent will also be measured on his/her ability to focus supporting organic business growth, implementing continuous operational improvements, organization development, safety, engineering/technology, R&D, and other financial metrics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Hands-on leadership to drive high levels of manufacturing performance with disciplined processes while leading a culture of engagement and empowerment.
Efficiently and accurately forecast manufacturing and engineering performance and costs monthly, quarterly and annually.
Develop multi-year strategic plans, annual operating plan/budget and capital expenditures.
Drive injury reduction with contemporary safety initiatives and engagement/ownership of all employees in safety.
Establish/implement and enforce quality control to ensure products meet design intent and end-user requirements.
Ensure the establishment and implementation of programs designed to improve safety and environmental incidents/metrics.
Establish/implement contemporary plant maintenance programs to maintain/improve asset reliability at target levels.
Develop a collaborative relationship within operations and across the organization to meet business strategic initiatives and ensure cross-functional integration.
Maintain TNA’s culture through effective communication and reporting; and continue to build an operations culture focused on: Safety Quality World Class Manufacturing Customer Service Product/Process Innovation Developing Organizational Talent Humble leadership that put the needs of the team and business first KEY PRIORITIES: Drive disciplined manufacturing execution in a collaborative, empowered environment Drive costs down while managing a budget Drive high levels of quality and service Lead development of innovative solutions within operations Grow and develop individual and team capabilities of the leadership team Drive improvement of all performance metrics Continue to build and drive a lean manufacturing and WCM culture QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline; Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering is a plus Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated career progression in manufacturing environments and 5+ years of team leadership experience Demonstrated Operations leadership experience in complex, matrix, manufacturing environments Practical knowledge in both world class manufacturing and engineering disciplines.
Must have previous experience driving pragmatic, results-focused continuous improvement programs.
Must have previous experience and success driving contemporary safety initiatives.
Formal training in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma is a plus.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation communications skills.
Strong track record as a leader, including team leadership and people development, and can effectively translate the business objectives into an executable vision/action plans for the operation Experience with a growth-oriented, global organization and leading manufacturing of diverse products through multiple distribution channels Demonstrated success leading/building teams with substantial bench strength to support growth and create successors to ley managers in his/her organization and ultimately to him/herself.
Proven ability to design operational strategies to meet the unique demands of TNA’s diverse customer base.
Ability to travel (domestically and internationally) when required and proficient in both Spanish and English.
