Job Description:
The Machinist/ Tool and Die Maker, performs machining operations and die repair.
This position is dedicated to getting the job done right the first time and promotes a safe work environment focused on overall continuous improvement and world-class manufacturing.
This skilled machinist will be supporting a sheet metal production environment.
Strong mechanical and tool and die experience, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and good communication skills.
The position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineer/Tooling Supervisor and interfaces frequently with all other departments including Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Human Resources.
The Tool and Die Machinist must demonstrate and support IHP Core Values.
Role and Responsibilities
* Experience and proficiency in setting up and using milling machines, surface grinders, and lathes is a must.
* Working knowledge of various measuring instruments: micrometers, calipers, pin gages, dial indicator, screw pitch gage, height gage, and comparator stand/gage.
* Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications.
* Cut, shape, and trim material to specified shapes, using milling machine, lathe, grinder, hand tools, etc.
* Design, make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
* Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
* Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
* Understanding of material properties & characteristics.
* Experience with stamping and forming dies is a plus.
* Ability to do trigonometry and geometrical math computations.
* Ability to interact effectively with customers, peers, management, manufacturing personnel, and both technical and non-technical people.
* Remain constantly alert to detect improper machining.
Other responsibilities as assigned Qualifications and Education Requirements
* Follow directions/instructions.
Has a working knowledge of speeds, feeds, and tooling.
* Inspect parts visually and mechanically for conformance to the print and process dimensions.
* Able to operate forklift, overhead crane, and other lifting devices.
* Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
* Good communication skills and attention to detail.
* A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations preferred.
* Years’ Experience: 2-3+ years of relevant work experience preferred.
* Experience in Machine Shop Math preferred.
*Physical and Environmental Requirements*
* Plant is not air conditioned and employee must be physically able to work in high temperatures in the summer months.
* Personal protective equipment- all employees are required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection and sleeve protectors.
* Lift 25 up to 50 pounds.
* Stand for long periods at a time.
