Responsibilities & Duties
Utilizes Distributive Control System within the operating environment to optimize the process and troubleshoot operational issues.
Analyzes operating procedures and equipment and machinery functions to improve raw material efficiency and improve product quality.
Directs activities of employees who operate and control such equipment as condensers, absorption and evaporation towers, pumps, valves, tanks, boilers, compressors, pipelines, etc.
to effect required chemical or physical change.
Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure.
Supports capital projects with designs, plant layout, and oversees workers engaged in constructing, controlling, and improving equipment to carry out chemical processes on commercial scale.
Designs equipment to control movement, storage, and packaging of liquids, and gases.
Determines most effective use of unit operations exercising judgment to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation, operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards.
Applies principles of chemical engineering to provide technical assistance to the production units, and Environmental Department to solve environmental problems.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (B.
S.
) from four-year college or university; and three to ten years related experience in a Chemical Manufacturing Facility and/or training.
Prefer direct engineering experience in a Nitrogen, Ammonia, and/or Ammonia Nitrate plant.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principals of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
